Wellness with a twist

Southern Illinois Wellness Expo
I recently talked about the first ever Southern Illinois Wellness Expo in my GratiTuesday blog post. The expo is a combination of three previous health conferences including the women’s, men’s and teen’s events.
Obviously, we’re going to have all aspects of health and wellness covered at the event with health screenings, blood draws, healthy cooking demos, fitness assessments and an Ask the Doc section. But we’re also working on some fun things to attract children and teens. Cybersecurity for kids, parents and senior citizens will be taught.

In the Teen Zone, we will welcome a variety of cosplayers. Spiderman, Spider Gwen, Supergirl and Pikachu will represent Castle Perilous Games and Books in Carbondale. These heroes will be available for photo opps in the teen and kid zones between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. There will be no charge for these pics.

Also joining us on Saturday, March 24; the Southern Illinois Jedi Order. This group has been around for years and has brightened the days of Star Wars fans of all ages. The men and women in this group will share the Force with fans between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. as well.

The Office of Workforce Innovation and Research at SIU in Carbondale will be on hand too with something fun and unique. Representatives will have a green screen along with a background featuring a variety of characters that visitors can be photographed with. The Simpsons, Superman, Ironman and the Minions are just a few of the featured characters.

PBS Kids’ character cutouts from WSIU, the SIU Robotics Team, Dino Golf and a bounce obstacle course are also going to be featured throughout the day. Tickets are $10 for adults and kids 17 and under get in free. We’ll be at John A. Logan College from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Be sure to check out any other details here.
