Introducing ‘Rev Kev’

Several years ago I had contemplated becoming an ordained minister. I had a couple of friends who had done it online and thought it would be something cool to do. The ordination allows the certified person to perform marriage ceremonies.

But time went by and I never followed up on the notion. That all changed recently when my friends, Rachel and Tyler asked me if I had become ordained because they wanted me to perform their ceremony. I talked with one of my friends who went through the process and he pointed me in the right direction.

In a matter of minutes, I was ordained through the Universal Life Church. I researched the marriage laws in Illinois and the certification that I received is in line with the requirements for a wedding official in our state. I’m still amazed at how easy the process was.

I’ll be honest, as I prepared for my first ceremony, I was nervous as hell. I wanted this to obviously be a very special event for my friends. After talking with them about what they wanted as part of the ceremony, I found a script online to use as a foundation and then added a more personalized message to it.

The actual ceremony was about 10 minutes. I thought overall it went well. The couple told me more than once it was great. My nervousness wained as I felt a rush of confidence come over me at the start of the wedding.

I’ve already got plans for a big event next year and look forward to helping more friends and family celebrate their special day, whether it be for a wedding or a renewal of vows.
