The best five bucks I spent

Building a brand

I declared at the end of 2017 that 2018 was going to be my year. Even though it’s more than halfway over I’m nowhere near ready to declare victory but I’m also far from waving the white flag. The Kevin Hunsblogger brand is doing fine. I’m picking up freelance gigs on a pretty consistent basis but I’ve really focused a lot of attention on the My 1-2-3 Cents brand (it’s all about pro wrestling). I recently did a couple of out of the box (at least to me) things to get it out there.

Earlier in the week, WWE was here in southern Illinois. I took advantage of the situation and created a Snapchat filter for the show. I used the #WWECarbondale along with the My 1-2-3 Cents logo. I had no expectations going into the evening and honestly worried if the filter would work. But for five bucks, it was well worth the risk.

It takes a few days to get the analytics from Snapchat. I was more than surprised when I opened my email this morning.

Here are the stats:

136,072 square feet: Coverage area (SIU Arena)
2,500 (approximately): Number of fans in attendance.
221: Swipes (the number of times the filter was seen in Snaps being created.)
167: Uses (how many times the filter was sent to friends or Snapchat stories.)
7,400: Views (how many times the filter was seen on Snapchat.)
75.6%: Usage (how often the filter was chosen in a Snap.)
4 hours: How long the filter was set up.
$5: The cost for this custom filter.

The cool part is I ended up seeing the filter on other people’s social media who I am not directly connected to. I also used the night to debut my new custom My 1-2-3 Cents suit from Shinesty. The literal monkey suit obviously stands out. That coupled with being a local news anchor created the ultimate icebreaker. After being asked about the suit I used it as an opportunity to plug My 1-2-3 Cents the blog, podcast and Facebook page.

While the Snapchat filter was much cheaper ($5 vs. $300) I view the suit as a longterm investment. I will continue wearing it to pro wrestling events, including my upcoming ring announcer assignments for Stride Pro Wrestling. More branding opportunities are coming up even as I write this. Be sure to check out My 1-2-3 Cents if you haven’t already. The future is bright…
